It's Funny Friday
Hi, we just love that picture and wanted to share with you.  Not much going on here, we have been staying out of trouble - well, maybe it's just building up to something HUGE.  With us you never can tell.  (o:

Summer is winding down and we can't wait for fall.  Mom usually brings out the decorations on September 1st but this year she is starting a little early.  Can't blame her...

We did say It's Funny Friday but we aren't being very funny, hm - let's try, oh we know, the pumpkin place mats that Mom made.
This is way before our time but the story has become a family "fall stories tradition".  You see, Mom can't sew - nope, well maybe a little but she hates it.  She saw these in a craft book and wanted to make them.  No problem - WRONG - holy moley, talk about Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hide.  Dad was away on a business trip so Mom had lots of time for sewing.
It was going smoothly, enlarging the pattern, buying the pretty fabric, cutting, pinning, and then WHAM....it was time to get the evil sewing machine fired up.  Oh boy....but it wasn't bad, sewing in a sort of circle, turning right side out - it was good.

Dad came home and took one look at the orange circles and asked Mom what she was making.  Oh boy, at that moment we are told that fireworks hit the horizon - but in the house.  Honest, Mom lost it...
It was bad - and then Dad explained that pumpkins have ribs.  We are too pure & innocent to quote what Mom said, honest.  Dad tells the story that perhaps Mom made up new "colorful" words.
Finally she finished, Dad was still alive, and "suggested" how to make the leaves.  That was okay, in Northwestern New Jersey finding a large leaf for a pattern was no problem.  The problem was - the evil sewing machine AGAIN.
Those place mats are over 30 years old.  Poor Grammy asked  if Mom would make her a set.  Nope, can you believe that?  Instead Mom gave them to her and she enjoyed them for many years.
Dining Room
The craft book, and Mom still has it.  Why, she always tells everyone, "never again".  She means it.
We wish you a very happy weekend, filled with laughter and love.

  8. Oh Miss Mona, we NEVER thought about that. Oh my goodness, now what have we done? Hahahahaha, Mom can take it, heck she teases us all the time.

  9. Ahh yes, craft projects that seem simple... A few years ago I decided I was going to make Christmas tree decorations. I got lots of Christmassy quilting squares, and a pattern pack with several options, and a bag of stuffing and then... Well, lets just say it took rather longer than anticipated to complete, and the whole family was stuffing and closing them on Christmas Eve! As your mum says, never again lol

PS, the bears are hoping their blog will be up tomorrow, alas I've been flat out at work all week
