It's Funny Friday
Jessie's Tomato Plant
"I love maters"

Jessie's "mater" plant.....

"Oh, do I see a little red color down there, Jessie?"

"Nope, nothing to be picked yet."

We adopted Jessie on Wednesday, March 12, 2009.  Shortly after we decided to plant a few tomato plants in large flower pots on the deck.  One plant was a cherry tomato that we put just next to the French doors leading into the family room.  And that plant just kept growing......

One afternoon as Molly & Jessie were coming in from the yard I saw Jessie STOP in front of the tomato plant and just look.  I thought that was so cute. And it kept happening, she never touched the plant but just kept looking at it.

And then FINALLY there was a red tomato, and another, and.....more and out of the corner of my eye I saw Jessie, stop as usual, look, and this time she took one, just one, little tomato, ate it, and came inside.  This happened every time they went out in their yard.  She never took one on the way out only on her way in, and only 1 little, red tomato. And she never damaged even the smallest leaf or touched a green tomato.

Last year we decided to late in the season and poor Jessie had no tomato plant.  So this spring we started early.  Jessie's cherry tomato plant is growing like a weed and on her way in she stops and looks.  She never looks at the 3 other plants, just that one. And, last weekend we had the "first mater ceremony".  Yes,  Jessie had her very first little cherry tomato.  As for Molly Brown, "yuck, I won't even sniff a mater".  Molly loves cooked carrots, though.  (o:

Have a wonderful weekend, filled with Blessings & sunshine. And maybe "a nice red mater".

  2. Hi everyone! That is adorable - I think I will call cherry tomatoes 'Jessies' from now on!

Sorry I've not been to visit for so long, but we had a wonderful holiday in Orlando, and then the cruise from Miami back to the UK was amazing - the 2 members of the Moss hug who I took along are now bragging to all the other bears about 'their' ship!!

Big hugs from Nicki and LT, xx

  4. Don't dogs do the funniest things? Jessie is nice to only take one little tomato. One year my dogs ate my geranium flowers every day. It was a treat tho I didn't think so.

  8. Hi Pam,

They sure do. Even if Jessie is sound asleep and I begin to slice a tomato she is right behind me. How she knows is a mystery to us.

  30. That is hilarious! And so sweet that Jessie has a little routine down pat! My first cocker spaniel used to pick black raspberries right off the vine when we would go for our walks! They grew wild, and she loved eating them!!
