Good morning my pretties. 

 

I just wanted to fly by and say hello, and that I have missed posting. Mom wasn't able to get up here for a few weeks so I have been taking on the terrible twins, trying to keep them out of trouble. It's hopeless. 

LuLu and Flora are OUT OF CONTROL, they are picking on the new little kids, Violet and Libby, and that is not allowed here, so - I took matters into my own wings and scooped them up and they are now in the tall nut tree, in a "nest" that I built for them, and let me tell you, that shut them up super fast. Oops, Mom doesn't like it when we say "shut up" (sorry Mom), rather that hushed them up PDQ. I am hoping that will teach them to be respectful and kind to the rest of the family (but I won't bet $$$ money on it).

Well, dearies, it's time to fly for a bit before the heavy rain begins. I wish you a lovely day, as lovely as you are to me. I love you

September Stories

It's Funny Friday

Hello my pretties, I am back to normal and writing today's post while Prudence helps Mom in the kitchen.  They say it's almost time for cooking pumpkin.

Well, I am home and feeling better but I still have heart hurts, Prudence says it will take some time but it will get better.  She is such a wise and kind teddy bear.

I did hurt my wing when I was out on my own, I wasn't looking where I was going and bumped into a big tree, then when I got my wits about me I decided to take a nap and fell off the branch.  NO PLACE LIKE HOME!  I am a vulture, look like one, but don't act like one, and you all know that I am a vegetarian.

I do have a funny story about Mom, she'll kill me but it's worth telling you.
She's afraid of FISH, wee tiny ones to the big boys of the deep.  Mammals she absolutely adores, not fish. She can't even walk down the tropical fish isle in the pet store, honest.  Once she decided to get over this and she walked half way down and froze - I kid you not.  She doesn't go in lakes, stream, oceans, she tells me, "Vlad, one of the big boys is out there waiting for me to put my foot in the water - and then CHOMP!"

Okay, we all laugh but she never, not once has laughed at someones fear, no, because she understands it can be very crippling.  But....we have fun laughing at her.

Time to get my wing exercises underway.  See you next week.  My Cousin Agatha arrived from upstate NY and next Friday we will introduce her to you and we will write the post together, you're gonna love her.

Vlad's Homecoming

It's Wonderful Friday

It's wonderful Friday 'cause VLAD IS HOME.  He called Mom that he was hurt, he missed his footing and fell from a tree branch.  We raced to the woods where he was and there on the ground our precious Vlad laid.

Mom scooped him up and wrapped him in my blankie and carried him to the car.  He had a few minor scrapes and bruises but he wasn't hurt badly except for his wing, he twisted it trying to break his fall, so we wrapped it up and he is grounded until he can use it without feeling pain.

We made him swear, promise, cross his heart that he would NEVER leave home again, no matter how broken his heart is, and he agreed.  He knows that time will heal his heart and spirit and that the one place on earth that will keep him safe and loved is HOME.

But...as soon as we brought him in the house Gertie was right by his side, she was crying and helping to bandage his injured wing.  Later, when everybody settled down she brought him his favorite snack, sardines and milk (yuck) and isn't leaving his side.

Minnie is a tad jealous so she is in the kitchen helping Mom bake his favorite dessert - double fudge brownies.  It's a mess, batter all over her, the kitchen, and MOM.  (Giggle)

Yes, it's a happy ending - finally.

Life Without Vlad

There's nothing funny about today, we are all grief stricken over Vlad's leaving us.  Mom has heard from him, he is lonely and since he is so different from his other birds friends they tend to keep their distance.  

Vlad has Mom's cell phone  and whenever he calls Mom promises to go to him and bring him home if he can't make it on his own.

Making the November Ornament

Peace and quiet on the home front.....

Well, almost until Vlad decided to act weird and took two pieces of our red fabric from our The Ornament Girl November kit, and called himself "vuldeer", now I ask you - is that weird or what?

Then, all of a sudden.....

I'm not sure if it happened because Vlad put on the Santa hat or it was just time for disaster to strike.

New Ornament

It's Funny Friday

Howdy, my lovelies.  Boy, do I miss my Prudence but she is having a grand time at camp, and she is very busy with the new little cubs, and planning daily activities.

I have been working on our July ornament and thought you would like to see the picture....

this is the first "pine cone" shape that we have made and it really was rather quick assemble.  Mom ironed each square into the triangle so it was even easier.

NO, WAIT - DON'T LEAVE

Whew....thought I had lost you....I have something to write about, Mom's new storage space.  Dad decided to go up into the  attic to check on installing the vent hood when they redid the kitchen.  Well, boys will be boys and he went crawling around and came to our craft room - well, surprise, surprise, there was a very large HUGE storage area behind the the wall.  Dad told Mom and asked if she would like more storage in her ALREADY big craft room.
So, as Prudence always says
"I'll show you with pictures"

 Dad wanted to make sure about what he was doing (no hidden surprises) so he taped off a small area of wall and opened it up........yippee, no surprises.

AND...it's snowing, snowing, snowing.  Big storm up here in the mountains.  Yippee.

Let's continue with the plot to steal Pumpkin Girl.

Mom walked into the family room and saw Pumpkin Girl's pet black bird laying on the floor...

guess who got blamed?

It was a toss, Vlad pointed to Jessie and Jessie just looked so innocent - so the jury blamed

VLAD.  Lurking in the shadows were LuLu & Flora watching closely, waiting for that one moment when Mom left the room.

Then...it got even worse

"Flora, wait, I have always wanted Wendy and now is the time - she is mine!"

"I'm hiding her in the living room, in the piano bench, Mom will never think to look there."

And that is how it ended - for now.  Mom hasn't noticed Pumpkin Girl and Wendy missing but when she does, it will be curtains (and I don't mean the ones hanging on the windows) for those two troublemakers, curtains indeed.

But...did somebody someratty witness the whole thing?

Takin' A Break...

Whew...what a week, busy, busy, busy.  Soooo, I am takin' a break for a week or two.  Going to visit my cousin, Jackson, in Livermore, CA and if he wants maybe he'll come back with me for a visit, and then we can leave for Camp Good Bear together.

Vlad offered to "fly" me

 out but on second thought we decided he needs to stay here and help Mom keep LuLu and Flora out of trouble.

 I will miss you, but I do need a break and Jackson and I always have so much fun, it's been a LONG time since I have been out on the left coast.

Fuchsia Plant

It's Fly Over Friday

Oh, parakeets, I'm a lovin' this author thingy.

I looked around for something of interest to report on and there it was, Mom's

Fuchsia Plant swaying in the breeze.

Last year (2014)
 Actually he was purchased last spring and was just beautiful all summer and then it was time to dispose of him. "NO", Dad said, "you paid $24. for a plant you are throwing away?"

Tips For Wintering Fuchsias

This is what our plants looks  like as of yesterday, he is healthy, growing, and looks really good considering he spent the winter in the garage but even then he continued to produce new leaves.

A New Author

It's Fly Over Friday

Hello to all, it's me, Vlad Vincent Vulture.

 Those bears are out of control so I took LuLu and Flora and held them over the railing on the porch (a mere 30' above the backyard) they promised never to be mean and nasty again (like I believe them).

So, life of a Vulture living with a human family, tis VERY interesting indeed.  I can't:

fly in the dining room

poop on the floors

walk on the kitchen counter

eat bunnies, birdies, squirrels, mousers, chipmunks, wild turkeys, gee, you could say life here is boring, but it isn't because:

Prudence is my sister

I have Molly Brown and Jessie (my two cuddly pups)

Mom who makes sure I am happy and get my Vulture exercise

I have a great craft room to hang in

Learning to be a vulturetarian (the things I do for Mom)

Sneak in a good poop on the floor when nobody is looking

Watch the Wild Turkeys walk by the front door

Love the snow

Live on the Lane

Yes, I am one happy bird Raptor and love living here.  You see, I am quite special because I wasn't born into the family, I was chosen and adopted.  My birth mother is the beautiful and oh so very talented Miss Wendy over at

and there is more to my beginnings, I was named "Vlad" by Maria, Miss Wendy's creative DIL.  You can say that this lucky ducky (don't get carried away, Vlad) um, Raptor has two families.

It's time to exercise my wings, maybe a fly-over on the porch and to wish you all a very nice weekend.  Maybe you will see one of my Kin out and about, or not.

Well, it's been an interesting week around here, so what else is new?
Vlad Vincent Vulture

The big bird has decided that he needs a kinder, softer look, let's say "a softer side of bird".  I suggested that he drop the scary bone that he carries around, he looks like he is always on the look for a snack (gulp).
So Mom (always willing to help us) came up with the idea that she would gently take his bone and put it down by his feet.  Okay, that worked for him but there was going to be an "ouch" moment when Mom removed the bone.  (Trust me, it hurt us more than it hurt Vlad.)
I needed to do something to make him feel better so I went over to

she has an Etsy Shop and would you believe she makes Vulture jewelry?  How cool is that?  And.....how perfect for us, but it even gets better.  I ran RAN over and looked at all the birds, and there he was, VLAD!  Do you believe this, there was a vulture named Vlad.....I couldn't get my money out of my pocket fast enough.  I was so beary excited, I tried to call Mom (I have my own cell phone) and I dropped the phone and then stepped on it......UGH, but it still sorta worked.   She calmed me down and told me to ask Miss Anne to mail it to us, with the way things were going I probably would have dropped that too.
Okay, enough, here's Vlad and Little Vlad.

Nappy time, Vlad went to look at himself in the mirror AGAIN!!!
